New Resource Library creates personal and community audio repositories and tutor collections

Virtual Tikkun™, “Where Words of Torah take Flight”™, is proud to announce new audio capabilities in the Virtual Tikkun application, supplemented with a deep and extensible Resource Library, that transform Torah teaching and learning.

At its heart Torah reading is an aural experience. Especially for B’nai Mitzvah students and many lay Torah readers, learning with their Cantor, Rabbi, tutor or mentor is important to learn an aliya with accurate trope, appropriate accents and correct pronunciation.

Many communities and Baalei Kria (experienced Torah readers) maintain their own minhag (tradition) and trope variations that are emotionally and historically important, and which they are committed to transmitting from one generation to the next. In addition, tutors and educators have their own teaching styles, and students often have a preferred learning style of their own.

The new audio capabilities of Virtual Tikkun empower clergy and mentors to easily record aliyot (whether annual, triennial or custom defined) whose fidelity remains true to their minhag. Furthermore, Virtual Tikkun now provides an extensible Resource Library that tutors can populate with their recordings as well as other pertinent documents, recordings, and videos. This design approach to Torah recordings balances ease of use with fidelity to tradition, as well as the teaching style of individual tutors and educators.

Creating audio recordings

Any user in Virtual Tikkun can create a recording of an aliya or pasuk (sentence) directly within Virtual Tikkun. No additional hardware is required. No upload is required. The integrated recording widget provides all familiar controls: record, playback, pause. Click the control and directly record the aliya using your device.

If a user has prerecorded audio files, they can easily upload them to the Virtual Tikkun environment, maintaining and leveraging their previous investment.

Automatic Slicing for Dynamic Flashcards

For each recorded aliya, Virtual Tikkun automatically slices the recording into individual pesukim that are then available when using Dynamic Flashcards. Educators and Baalei Kria just record the aliya and Virtual Tikkun automatically delivers recordings of each individual pasuk.

Accessing audio recordings

When users enter Learn mode in Virtual Tikkun for a specific (bookmarked) aliya they can directly access all recordings for which they have access. These include: their own previous practice or reference recording of the aliya, their tutor’s recording, as well as reference recordings shared by clergy or experienced Baalei Kria.

Users can access aliya recordings when learning in Full Aliya mode. When using Dynamic Flashcards they can access the recording for that specific pasuk that Virtual Tikkun has automatically extracted from the complete aliya recording.

Resource Library

In addition to accessing recordings in Learn mode when studying an aliya, users can also access recordings in the new Resource Library. They can access their own set of aliyot recordings, recordings created by their tutor or chavrusa, as well as recordings created by experience d Baalei Kria and shared with the community.

Recordings are linked back to the Learn interface, enabling users to listen to a recording in the context of the aliya with a single click.

The Resource Library enables clergy and tutors to develop their own personal set of recordings that they can share with students, growing their investment in making (or uploading) their recordings for subsequent students, or the community at large. Tutors can use their accumulated library of recordings with students from multiple synagogues.

External documents can easily be linked into the Resource Library.

Availability

Audio recordings and the Resource Library are available for all customers in Virtual Tikkun immediately at no additional charge.
